In Memoriam
Vernon Vereschagin
Vernon Vereschagin passed away peacefully at home January 25, 2024. He was 2 months shy of his 95th birthday.
Vernon was born in Orland from Russian parents whose family emigrated from Russia at the turn of the century to Saskatewan, Canada and moved down the west coast as farming labor until several family members eventually settled in Orland in the mid/late 20’s and started working hard towards their farming destiny.
Vernon was an inspiring father and businessman in the farming industry, and with his brother (John), father (John Sr) created a successful orchard business of almonds and prunes that the next generation are managing.
Through his career Vernon was active in the California Prune Board, California Prune Bargaining Association, California Prune Advertising Sub Committee, President Orland High School Board, Glenn County Planning Commission, and Chico’s Seniors in Retirement (SIRS) where he met so many friends.
Vernon and his wife Joyce were active in the community in both Orland and Chico, loved to travel the states and world, shared lovely family vacations with the children, and were so creative with architectural projects, yard landscaping, and loved entertaining!
Someone who lives to almost 95 has shared special time with many, lost many, and Vernon kept his mind active all the while. He totally appreciated the relationships with all his care givers!
Vernon was preceded in death by his daughter (Anne), wife (Joyce), and son (Paul). Left behind to lovingly cherish his memory are his daughter Carol, grandson Bradley, daughter-in-law Darcy, and other family members.
There will be a private grave site service, and celebration of life at Butte Creek Country Club.
We loved Vernon! He would stop by and check out any expansion, construction and “just see what we were up to” at Baugher Ranch Organics. He loved to see what is going on and check in on our family. He would always say “your a good kid” to my sister and myself. We cherished Vernons visits, words of wisdom and encouragement! He will be missed deeply, yet never forgotten! Our condolences to the Vereschagin family, especially Darcy and Bradley.
I would always visit with Vernon during my chiropratic visits. Even after we saw the doctor we would sit in the waiting room and have a great visit. My father-in-law work for him at Plaza Farms and said he was a good boss.
When I would come to Orland as a younster to visit my grandfather, Alex Vereschagin, I would work on the farms during the day and spend a good amount of time under the guidence and training of Vernon. I looked up to “Uncle Vernon” and cherish all the time I was able to spend with him.
My condolences to all the family and fond memories of a great man.-
