Name:Tom Burkland burklands@q.com
From:Ogden, Utah, USA
Message: Colette & Lyle,
I just found out about Howard's passing and wanted to drop a line offering our condolences. He was one of my favorite Bonneville friends, even after he stopped racing. There were so many lessons to be learned from Howard and he was always willing to teach everyone as he went through life. There is no doubt heaven is a better place with him there.

Message: I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have know Howard for years and enjoyed seeing him and talking with him on his many Costco visits. He was always a joy to talk to. I just recently heard of his passing. The world has lost a truly amazing man. It won't be the same at work knowing that today is not going to be a day that I will get to say HI to Howard. He will be greatly missed.

Message: I am so very sorry for your loss. I may not have known Howard as well as some, but the person I knew was one of the kindest people I have ever met. I have worked at Costco for ten years and I can say without a doubt that Howard was one of our favorite members. He always had a smile on his face. I’ve worked in many departments at Costco and just about every department new who Howard Johnson was. I just heard the news today, from one of my coworkers, of his passing and it saddens me deeply.
Not only did I know Howard from Costco, but through my mother as well. My mom works at the Chico VA and when Howard realized that the daughter she talked about was the same person he new from his visits to Costco, well he made a point of saying “Hi” to me almost every time he came in. He would always give me updates on whether he had just seen my mom or was going in soon for an appointment and that he would make sure to tell her hello for me.
I feel like I just saw him only a week ago. I can still see him walking past the photo lab saying hello with his yellow note pad. I think that was the last time I saw him. He will be missed.
My thoughts and prayer will be with you.

Kate Carrington
